Uncovering Manchester!

As a Manchester ‘outsider’, getting to know the city can be difficult by just walking around so I went online and did some research and found out some pretty interesting things.

For example: did you know that the atom was first split in Manchester? Well in 1919 Ernest Rutherford carried out the experiment in the University Of Manchester. So if you’ve ever somehow come across the physics lab at the university and wondered why it was named ‘The Rutherford Building‘, well now you know.

Another one for those who enjoy history; you’d be interested in knowing that Emmeline Pankhurst – the leader of the British suffragette movement – was born and raised in Moss Side. Now I know most cities are home to at least one famous name but it’s still pretty fascinating finding out who.
