The Brazilian Shopping Mall Obsession

1What is it with Brazilians and shopping malls? People seem to love going to them for absolutely no reason whatsoever, even when they have nothing specific to buy and no intention of doing any actual shopping. When I think of shopping malls (or shopping centres as we call them in the UK), they generally conjure up traumatic mental images of bright lights, slippery floors, screaming kids and generally too many humans in one space. Of course sometimes needs must… Christmas shopping or serious clothing splurges need to take place in these horrendous places, but if I can avoid them, I will at all costs.

Here in Brazil on the other hand, people will find any excuse to lure you to a shopping mall. The first time someone suggested going to the mall I presumed there would be some serious shopping taking place, but in actual fact it was just a case…
