A New York based firm is set to turn many of London’s distinctive red telephone boxes into tiny rent-able offices in coming months, with plans to expand the project to other cities across Britain including Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“Pod Works”, as the venture is being called, is being rolled out by Bar Works, a company which has spent the last year opening so called “co-working” spaces across New York City.
Co-working spaces have taken off in the UK and Europe in recent years, targeted at entrepreneurs and freelancers looking for alternatives to coffee-shops or working from home.
These “pods” however – as the transformed phone boxes are being called – are being aimed at workers looking for a little more privacy (or are in a bit of a rush travelling between appointments).
